I was there that day. The show featured Frampton, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Santana, and the Outlaws. It's the same show where the video of Skynyrd doing Free Bird was shot. I went to a bunch of Day on the Green shows in the 70s. They were always great shows.
I was on the USS Enterprise home-ported in Alameda and went to one, I thought it was July 4th, 1977 but I'm probably wrong. Anyway the show was Sammy Hagar, Mahogany Rush, Blue Oyster Cult, Jeff Beck w/ Jan Hammer on keyboards, and J Geils Band finishing off. Peter Frampton came out and joined them for their encores. It cost $8.00 and was free with military ID.
Your not wrong Sheik. They did a show on the 2nd and one on the 4th. I was at the one on the 2nd. I spent the 4th on the Yuba River with a bunch of nekkid people.
The late '70s was about the last time I went swimming in the Yuba. It was towards the end of when you could get a spot by yourself without hiking 5 miles. Good times.

ReplyDeleteHe was great with Humble Pie, he was a great guitarist, but he was always too pretty for his own good. It really screwed up his career.

DeleteJuly 4th, 1976. Nashville Speedway. Great concert. Gary Wright (Dream Weaver) was on right before Frampton. Had both on 8-track.
