A man recently released from prison due to concerns over his high-risk status for contracting the novel coronavirus was involved in a shooting on Detroit's West Side.
Ronald Segars, 49 years of age, was released into the general public in June because of his high blood pressure and a recent stroke.
I love it when they spell the last name in the beginning of the article differently than down further in the story.

No sense not trying to do a little reforming first time out. Get 'em some education, drug rehab if necessary, etc. On discharge, let them know that they really, really don't want to re-offend.

Better news? Ad revenue from the games helps offset the cost of all that education and rehabilitation that you got first time around, and your housing/food costs - if necessary - this time around.
The article says jail, not prison, so either he was serving a short sentence and would have been out in less than a year anyhow, or he was awaiting trial and could have been out even sooner if he had a little money for bail.
