What a special soul that Charlie is. He will return. Perhaps in a different dog body, but return he will. I hope he finds you again, Kenny. If not in this life, surely the next. Ohio Guy
Can’t wait to see my boy Foster Bear, He was our mascot in a Cavalry Squadron for four years. Man that dog was known and loved by many soldiers around the Division. Hell even the Division Commander would stop by when we were in the field, (if he had time), and he and Foster would go for walks in the woods. We were a Cav Squadron in one of the Light Infantry Divisions.
Dogs are bad news emotionally. They dig a spot out in your heart, jump in and do the turning around thing for 10-15 years. Wallow out a furry little hole just the perfect size for their personality... And then they die and leave the hole. And there ain't no way to fill the hole back up either. Oh you can patch the hole, but it'll be there under the patch for the rest of your life. Lord knows dogs are a blessing in or life, but the ending is really hard on a man.
I'm with you Pard. Maggie the Country Poodle left us last May after 17-years. Still listen-look for her especially in quiet hours before daylight. Now, the strings too short to get another pup.
It is the damnedest thing how dogs can fill this big hole in you that you didn't know you had. Think of how many great memories you have of CharlieGoddammit that make you crack up and laugh, a huge gift for the rest of your life.

You know going in they have only a few years, but that doesn't make it any easier.
ReplyDeleteI loved the way he nodded his head and his smile got a little bigger at the end, as if to say "that was gooood...."
ReplyDeleteAgreed. The thing that looked like a giggle at the end broke me though. Priceless!!!

Get a big dog that doesn't live as long, it hurts when they go but a life with no dog is a bleak life.
DeleteLots of older dogs that are harder to adopt out but desperately need a good home for their remaining years.

ReplyDeleteThe greatest travesty in life is the lifespan of a dog.
ReplyDeleteI miss him and I've never met him.
ReplyDeleteYou know, I think I'll stay up tonight and watch this about a thousand more times.
