I'm actually surprised this kind of thing is legal. If you're old enough, you remember chrome window film for cars and vans. That went away for this same reason.
Lots of time that is done for a specific reason, keeps assholes from following to close with their high beams on. Either pass or back the hell off asshole....
I've been behind such a truck on I-40 ... I-70 ... I-80 ... But the coolest vehicle I've seen with such a finish was a stainless steel Delorean that had the factory brushed finish burnished to a mirror gloss. Out on I-66 it was visible for MILES.
When I hauled logs in my pretty blue and silver Kenworth it used to take me a long time to pass those loaded fuel tankers with their meticulously polished aluminum tanks as I headed up Interstate 80 empty and they were loaded. Don't tell anybody, but I usually waved to myself as I went by. Good times.
I had a girl friend like that. She would get alongside the trailer and admire herself driving. This was before cell phones. After a bit she would have 20 cars piled up behind her madder than shit, cuz they couldn't get around her and she was maintaing truck speed
I got behind a stainless tanker once that was polished like that. Had a great reflection of myself. Not sure how far we went before I shook myself out of the "highway hypnosis" from just watching myself in the reflection.
If it's rush hour, at least you could shave on the way to work.

Must have just left the truck wash 'n wax.

Oh, I have followed them with the sun at my back. It is not a pleasant experience. I get around them as soon as I can.

ReplyDeleteAnd most of the time it is done specifically because of the owner-operator's pride and the love he has in the rig he owns.
DeleteI speak from experience.
