  1. A good friend of mine, former college roommate, and member of my wedding party died this past summer at an early age of 57 after a 3 year battle with cancer. He was a Chief Check Pilot and Helicopter flight instructor with a very large company that I don't want to name here. He had a flight instructor who was also the flight instructor for the pilot involved in the accident that killed Stevie. Word around the chopper community is that that pilot was an accident looking for a place to happen. I guess I bring it up because the community on this blog tries to keep a nodding acquaintance with truth. If you see something fucked up say so and don't worry about hurt feelings. RIP SRV.

  2. I think Stevie and the keyboard player had a coke sniffing contest before the show. Love me some Stevie. Learn something every time I watch him play.

  3. I saw him about a month before he died at the Gorge in Washingtom. What a show! I think there oughta be a law against artists flying in anything. Think hiw many have died in some preventable accident.

  4. Next time you are around Florida, look for Chris Hyatt and Cold Shot.

They are a SRV tribute band.
I saw them in Sacramento about 1980 or so... magnificent!

  5. I was working as a traveling field technician in south Alabama when the news about the crash was announced on the radio. I was devastated. Saw him in concert at the UT Alumni Gym in Knoxville in 1987 for the "Live, Alive!" album tour and was blown away.

The "day the music died" for many people come with the passing of musicians like Janis Joplin, Jimmy Hendrix, Jim Morrison, etc.

Stevie Ray Vaughn was the mile post for me.
