The miracle of modern irrigation

  1. And part of the miracle of modern agriculture that allow the USA to have almost 10 TIMES the population we had pre-electricity 1800's. Yes, we've kept a lot of useless people alive via social services but....

When the grid goes down, the fuel stops, the water pumping mostly stops, city and town septic systems fail and population will fall to well past our 1800's population due to violence, disease and loss of knowledge of how to DO thing before electricity.

Welcome to the western Colony of China then....

Sorry, round-eye. Our hands full with Africa; you on your own.

    2. If Western (i.e. US) power truly declines significantly, China will NOT have its hands full with Africa. They'll simply kill off pretty much all of the Black Africans. Look, even high-IQ non Han are barely human so far as the Chinese are concerned. As far as other groups go? Hah, good luck! Blacks sitting on all that land and all those resources? The PRC would cheerfully kill them all with less remorse than a rancher killing off a prairie dog town, if not for the anticipated reaction of the West. To the West it's "OMFG genocide!" but to the Chinese it's merely large-scale pest control. Some new plague tagged to specific genetic markers would probably be the way to bet.

And no one says "round eye". The expression for whites is "big nose" (and no, it has nothing to do with Jews).

  2. All over west TX, especially flying into Midland-Odessa. And the resulting population increases (as Michael states above). No one thought the Edwards Aquifer would have problems but as more and more people move to the area, resources are being strained.

    1. When the water table drops and wells start pumping air, we may reconsider this.

I'm not a shrieking environmentalist. Everything in moderation. And everything has an implicit cost.

  3. Cue 10 zillion ignorant "environmentalist" Karens demanding this irrigation cease, desist and stop immediately because reasons. Stupid reasons.

  6. First time I saw these was years ago flying from Dallas to Calif. Out the window at thirty some thousand feet they were pretty cool to see. At first I didn't know what to hell they were. However, the ol noggin finally figured it out.

  9. Ag will end up moving indoors, and water is a big part of the reason.
