This might sound like some sort of weird passive aggressive attempt by the French to pull one over on the Americans, but this actually happened back when Louisiana (which was much bigger and included areas that are now part of Mississippi) belonged to the French.

At least the French married outside the family!
ReplyDeleteHere's a story beats any Oklahoma, Mississippi or Florida story. Around 1990, a man entered the sheriff's department in a NE Texas town, told the clerk he had the bodies of his wife and his mother-in-law outside in his pickup. The clerk got a deputy, who asked the man, "You kill 'em?" The man replied, "Had to. They wouldn't shut up."
ReplyDeleteAnd they wonder why that corner of Louisiana (New Orleans) is such a screwed up mess.
ReplyDeleteAnd when us Cajuns showed up and saw that New Orleans was filled with the same people our fathers had left France to get away from, we kept going, doing our own thing in south central and southwest Louisiana.
