A few years ago one of the big ones in the big city over the river bridge had a short in the electrical system. Radio music started, hit the go button and all the wired stuff did just what you see here, kinda cool. They always have manual shots as well so it was slow but they made it last a little bit.
Reminds me of the times about 70 years ago of when my mother's pressure cooker safety plug blew after she forgot to turn off the stove. We were scraping shit off the ceiling for a week.
Nope, that is second place. First place goes to a mortar team out of Ft Richardson back in 2009 in Ghazni Afghanistan. We spent all day watching 4 Talibs carry two crates to the top of the neighboring mountain. A local tipped off our gate guard. He was worried they would shoot short and hit the town. They were setting their mortars when the CO got the word that we could fire. The Willy P landed next to the ammo crate. For the next 5 minutes things were going off all over that mountain top. The patrol the next day couldn't find anything larger than a golf ball up there. I was a civilian contractor there to fix their broken satellite system that enabled them to stream the drone video feed. I fixed it the day before when I arrived and was waiting for transport out later that week.
Reminded me of an incident I witnessed in my late teens.
A friends very wealthy parents had a cottage (mansion on a lake) in a wealthy cottage area. Every summer the rich cottage owners would chip in to hire a fireworks company to let off a large display on a barge in the middle of the lake.
Stared off fine, then all the sudden things went sideways and I knew it was bad. One of the fireworks company employees was injured very badly, had to be air lifted out. Bad scene.
Oops.....
ReplyDeleteDamn! where was that?
ReplyDeleteThat was San Diego bay, several years ago. Expensive screw up. That was before my escape to Tennessee, land of the free (for now).
DeleteIts certainly one of the shortest displays ever.
ReplyDelete'Dammit Earl, I told you to put out that cigarette! Look what you did!'
