Chattanooga Times Free Press Asks Conservatives Why They No Longer Trust Mainstream Media

Staff at The Chattanooga Times Free Press want conservatives to fill out a survey explaining why they no longer trust the mainstream media.

Chattanooga Times Free Press announced the survey this week. Editor Alison Gerber wrote that her newsroom is one of 30 across the United States to partner with The Trusting News project and The Center for Media Engagement at the University of Texas. Together they said they want “to better understand the dramatic erosion of trust in media among conservatives.”

  1. It's a simple answer, MSM is nothing but trash, there's absolutely no journalism there.

  2. Asking such a question is proof positive they're oblivious to the problem. Put another way, pathological liars think they're 100% truthful.

  3. Why should we help the enemy? They can certainly tell the difference between truth and propaganda without help from any of us. Stoopid Libs.

  4. That survey is only meant to help them "polish the turd". That they have to ask what is the problem is proof enough to me that they're not equipped to make the changes to solve the problem.

    1. Agreed. They probably already have their 'ballot' boxes stuffed with their own 'questionnaires'.

  5. Worked in the media for 25 years (70s-mid-90s). They were becoming very skilled at slanting the narrative even back then. I know firsthand how to use creative editing to bias the narrative. Now the vast majority is complete bovine manure. They do not answer the basic who, what, where, when, why and how many that I was taught in journalism class as being the basic core to every story. They just push a narrative giving as little real information as possible. Glad I got out of the media when I did. I would not be able to put up with having to deal with these self-righteous unprofessional so-called journalists without getting fired and blacklisted for challenging their libtardness.

    1. I was probably one of the last generations to have a fairly decent education (class of '78), was taught critical thinking and communication, how to read an article and be able to see the biases. Also has some journalism courses and was on the JrHS paper, had a story published in the local paper when they still accepted them from mere citizens.
It pains me to read just about any 'news' story these days and I am always asking where are the basic 'W' questions? I even ask the reporters or editors when I call to discuss and critique an article. They are f-n clueless.
We had one guy, the crime reporter, who wrote an article about a missing elderly woman from a nearby town who was found dead in that town. He mentioned there was no indications of foul play and a paragraph later mentioned her car was found in my city, 40 miles away at a motel. I asked how is that not indicative of something suspicious. He replied it was what was provided by the family or cops and apparently never questioned it...too sensitive he said???!!
That is the other issue with modern 'reporters'...they are not, they copy things off the wire or slap something together that would not pass in any decent journalism class.

  6. anyone that's got a spare 20minutes should go take their survey. It's pretty interesting.

    1. Even easier than wasting 20 minutes just email gina.chen@austin.utexas.edu and let her have it. I said:

      Hello,

Here's a quick reply as to why people don't trust media - no need for a long survey. Why don't we trust media?

      BECAUSE THEY ARE FUCKING LIARS

      Sincerely,

  7. But I *do* trust the newsmedia. What kind of horrible ungrateful person would not trust the media? A paranoid insane nutcase maybe? But as a non-crazy person of *course* I trust an institution run by people who are much better educated, natively more intelligent, and wiser and more altruistic than I am. It's just common sense.

The people who benevolently guide the business of news are like wise elder brothers, or kindly shepherds, always selflessly repairing the world to the glory of G-d.

I'm also grateful for the wise and kindly hedge fund managers who have done so much to strengthen the economic health of these United States, and for all the benefits they have done unto the average person. Read up on the 10 great men on this list, so that you will understand where they came from and the values that surely guide them. Only by studying great men can we improve ourselves. These men are true American heroes! (PS: list has a spelling error, it's Jim Simons, not James Simmons)

  8. Simple. You are not journalists. You are political apparatchiks, slimy propagandists and mouth breathing troglodyte progressives. Also cockwobbles.

  9. In my small city, the liberal slant is also not just in the stories that they write, but in the ones that they choose to cover. They are all over anything liberal, from a new business startup by a gay couple, to a parent supporting his transexual 12 year old. But a gun store that is expanding, or a couple renewing their wedding vows after 65 years in a Catholic church? Yeah, you won't see that story anywhere.
A Black, gay, female with a GED running for the school board, a huge article, plus a follow up on the next page. A returning soldier with PTSD, a White, male, with a wife and 3 kids, who manages to finish that bachelor's degree in business management, and is able to start a business, that employees other retired military? Right, you better hope that it is covered in a military magazine like the VFW magazine or such, because the local paper is unlikely to touch it. Unless a Democrat made it possible, and the soldier heaps praise on them.
Bias doesn't have to be explicit, it can also be implicit, and that is often the kind that the left likes to use, in order to claim that they are not bigoted against the conservatives.

    1. This.

How many articles were published on Trumps mid East peace deals? How many on the false Steele dossier? How many on Hunter Biden's laptop?

  11. I certainly did take the survey.
Doubt they will wanna add me to the zoom bs if they look at my answers though.

  12. Because the media can't distinguish between reporting the facts and only the facts (who, what, when, where, how and why) with on op-ed piece. I don't want your opinion, I want facts. I was taught critical thinking as a child, sometimes at the end of a switch. (Just because everybody is doing it, doesn't make it smart or right.)

  13. I bet you that this newspaper already has hired a couple of dozen sheeple to help them fill out these ballots, oops, questionnaires.

  14. I think any red pilled conservative won't waste any time with that. They'll wind up with RINO squishes answering their survey and then never figure it out.

  15. My first thought was, yeah about time they get a clue.....then my tinfoil hat conspiracy thought was, how are they going to "harvest" what I say.

    ReplyDelete
  16. If we tell them where we get our information, they'll just attack, discredit, and de-platform those forums. Every survey has a hidden agenda.

    1. I don't do surveys just for that reason.

    2. I have filled in a different similar survey and then typed in filler when asked about where I get my news from. The format wasn't going to let me leave that blank. I had the same thought as you.

Hey Wirecutter, maybe you should forward these comments to them. I mean, if they really want to know.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Really, if they are too stupid to visit non MSM sites, or Rush's archives, or any half a dozen right-of-center news site, and read the comments, then they are likely too stupid to process any truthful answers.

What was that aphorism about a pig, and choir lessons....?

  19. I take surveys whenever I can, and give answers that aren't mine. Anything I can do to further their misunderstanding of the world is great.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Remember the cops telling wanted felons they'd won the lottery and to stop by at X to get their prize?

"Dear conservative scum, please self-identify. We wants to know your feelz."

While I completely agree with throwing sand in the gears (multiple answers, all lies, etc) I would only do that via TOR and probably a VPN as well.

It's possible (unlikely, but possible) that the editor a)truly doesn't understand; b)wants to; and c)might actually do something. 40 years of football with Lucy suggest otherwise.

My answer would be, you're right there's a huge problem. If you look, there is already lots of information, but you must hear it. You are smart, figure it out and act differently. You'll know when you're improving.

  21. Many of us have learned over the years that an Associated Press byline simply means that it is a liberals opinion and not necessarily news. There are very few actual reporters no days. There are plenty of "Journalists", but that is a lower level of the profession. Journalists generally just report their opinions and do not report news.

  22. They've shown themselves repeatedly to be nothing more than liars & shills for those that would enslave us. When TSHTF, there's enough shit to cover them, too.
    I think that covers it.

  23. As I keep saying, I don't KNOW if the media is/are a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Dem Party, or if it's the other way round, but it's OBVIOUS to me that they are in CAHOOTS. Sleeping together, too.

  24. After reading these comments I decided to go over there and see if the survey was interesting.

Forget it. The very first thing they did was demand that I disable my ad-blocker.

    Instant "back" button!

I really don't mind ads per se, but I will not put up with those damn pop-ups, pop-overs, or auto-start video's.

That, right there, all by itself is a show-stopper for me.
