Doctor Shares Hidden Dangers Of iPhone 12 For People With Pacemakers

PITTSBURGH (KDKA-TV) — According to a new warning from doctors, there are two devices people depend on that should never be near each other.

The warning relates to pacemakers and the iPhone 12, which contains electromagnetic technology and more magnets than previous models.

  1. That iP-12 and pacemaker interrupt problem sounds dangerous, But how does iPhone 12 work with penile implants? Oh cool. It connects Pornhub videos with the computerized inflator via Bluetooth.

  2. Iphone 12 ? Damn last time I looked they were the Iphone 4 or something like that. I'm using a 9 y/o Motorola android on a consumer cellular account that cost me $32 a month and has worked just fine all that time.

  4. “If you place a magnet on the pacemaker, the pacemaker will slightly increase its heart rate and speed up the heart a little bit,” he said.

That's not necessarily the case (that it will increase the pacing rate, because it depends on what the PM was programmed to do in the first place). But a magnet *is* placed over the pacemaker for diagnostic (what are the settings?) and programming purposes. The theoretical risk is that one might accidentally reprogram the pacemaker by subjecting it to a moving electromagnetic field, such as the one generated by a phone. Same reason the airport RapeyScanner is actually okay for people with pacemakers, but the (magnetic) metal detector and the handheld wand are not. The actual risk of accidentally resetting the pacemaker into adverse settings is really small, so this is more of an insurance and liability issue.
