It's booming out there right now and that asshole dog Jack is laying next to my chair shivering and shaking with his head stuffed under the bottom shelf of my end table.
Poor dog, he's usually fearless, but he's scared to death of thunder. I usually give him 100 mg of Trazadone to calm him when we get thunder and lightning, but we're supposed to get a brief respite in a little while with more severe storms coming tonight, and I don't want to double dose him. The best I can do right now is to pet him and talk calmly to him.
Try putting a tshirt on him and twisting it till it's snug all around, then tie it off. Works pretty well for my fur baby.
ReplyDeleteWe're suppose to get that shit tonight here in the Fla panhandle. It's been very warm and humid for a while, so if this is that funky cold front coming through, I can see the possibility of hail and tornadoes they're calling for tonight.
ReplyDeleteCould be a fun one.
I was going to suggest a tight t-shirt but also let him huddle under a blanket off your bed. Your scents will keep him calmer and being covered up in a blanket on his own bed (including over his head) may also help keep him warmer and calmer. My dogs love this.
ReplyDeleteI stream either spotify or youtube during the storms here in SE Texas. We have a variety of favorites but the native flutes seem to be effective. hope AJ calms down
ReplyDeleteSpring has sprung, the grass has riz, I wonder where the birdies is.
ReplyDeleteI'll send you Sophie's ThunderShirt, if you'd like to try it. I bought a new one about 8 months before she died to replace the first one.
ReplyDeleteThey worked well with her, and she was very sensitive to noise -- she'd run out of the room if I sneezed.
Thanks, but he can't stand to have anything on him. I bought a harness to use when I take him to the vet so he'd be easier to control and I had to fight him to get it on, then he did everything in his power to get it off to the point he got raw spots trying to scrape it off on the side of the house.
DeleteForgot about that.
DeleteI remember the vet trip stories.
He is mellowing out, but he's got his quirks.
DeleteI do appreciate the offer, though.
I sent you a video of one of our waterfalls at our house.
ReplyDeleteBeer.
ReplyDeleteMost dogs will drink beer, and it tends to calm them, or make ;em go to sleep.
Cheaper than the vet pills too.
Don't overdose him though.
