Bill Banning Sale of New Small Gas-Powered Engine Machines Introduced in California Assembly

A new bill that would phase out the sale of new gas-powered small off-road engines (SORE) by 2024 was introduced in the Assembly Monday.

Assembly Bill 1346, authored by Assemblyman Marc Berman (D-Menlo Park) and Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez (D-San Diego), would require the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to adopt cost-effective and technologically feasible regulations to prohibit engine exhaust and evaporative emissions from new small off-road engines. Specifically, the sale of new gas-powered small off-road engines, commonly found in gardening and outdoors equipment such as lawnmowers, leaf blowers, chainsaws, and other similar equipment would be transitioned over to only zero-emission motor equipment.

  1. Looking at the pictures, neither one of the assemblypeople have ever done an hours work in their lives.

    1. Looking at those pictures, it's clear that Gonzalez and Berman daily suffer more oppression than you (or I) have ever experienced, or could even understand.

  2. Which means they will set the "ILLEGAL ALIENS" back to the stoneage of mowing and trimming manually, but I guess it will create more jobs.

  3. Last time I was in California, there must have been a million mexicans with gas powered landscaping machines beautifying the freeways.. Trimmers, hedgers, etc. Im laughing as I see all that being removed.

  4. "Zero Emissions" just means that the pollutants happened somewhere else. Where do they think the electricity for the batteries comes from?

  5. Let ‘em drown. They can’t pump out enough power to run things now. And if there’s one place that won’t last long without electricity, it’s Kalifuckfornia.

  8. [“Today, operating the best-selling gas-powered commercial leaf blower for one hour emits air pollutants comparable to driving a 2017 Toyota Camry from Los Angeles to Denver,”...] B.S.

[“It’s time to phase out these super polluters,” Gonzalez said. “They’re not only bad for our environment, but can cause serious health issues for workers who utilize them every day...”] "Super Polluters"???

Here we go with the "scary" data and language. No citation of "research or "studies". Modern 2-cycle engines are pretty darned clean, with leaned-out carbs, 50:1 fuel/oil ratios, and catalytic mufflers. FFS. Thank you CARB and EPA.

You'll get my carb-screw-limiters removed, non-catalytic muffler, non-ethanol fueled chainsaws when you pry them from my cold, dead hands.

  9. I can see it now...a 2 stroke gas generator spewing smoke as it charges up all the "green" electric-powered tools plugged in. Genius!

    1. No, only BATTERY-POWERED generators will be allowed.

    2. Don't give them any ideas, Expat. Particularly bad ones that make no sense. Those are the kind the Controllers like Lorena Gonzalez like the best.
There's nothing like a woman who has never pulled a rope start in her life telling us what we can and can't own.

  10. At any point along the way will the sheep of Cali finally realize that none of this is the business of government.

    Sad.

  11. I love it when politicians think they can legislate engineering.
