Chasing Whiskey: Documentary reveals personal stories, history of Jack Daniel's

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — A new documentary is revealing the origins and the impact Jack Daniel’s has had on the world.

“Chasing Whiskey – The Untold Story of Jack Daniel’s” features interviews with Eric Church, Shooter Jennings, Tina Sinatra, and Tim Matheson about the iconic whiskey brand.

*****

I never have dared for Jack Daniel's myself, even when I was drinking it. Hell, the only reason I drank it back then was because everybody else was - you'd go to a party somewhere and there would be 10-12 bottles of Jack being passed around, and not a single bottle of bourbon in the house.
I quit drinking Jack pretty much the same time I quit going to drinking parties. If I'm buying my own whiskey, I'm buying corn liquor that's aged at least 5 years, distilled in Kentucky, and doesn't have as big of a bite to it.

  1. I make my own and flavor it. But on the occasion I do splurge for a bottle, its George Dickle. Keeping it simple.

    1. George Dickel was my favorite Tennessee whiskey for sure. Good stuff.

    2. Dickel is made a few miles from my house and I much prefer it to Jack. I like Jim Beam a little better tho. (I went to same prep school as the Master Distiller, altho he was a year ahead of me. Best as I remember he was a good guy, and popular).

    3. The twelve year old is great, and a very good price for the quality.

  2. Jack is vile stuff, IMHO. Gentleman Jack, however, is good stuff. Nemo

  3. Jack is still American-owned; Jim Beam and some others belong to Suntory.

  4. The wife had a 500 ml bottle of Garrisons Texas Bourbon she was holding on to for a special occasion that costs about $100. We cracked that baby open once we survived the deep freeze and power outages with no damage. That is some smooth sipping bourbon.

  5. I think Jack is some of the shittiest whiskey you can get.
I do like a good bourbon though. Lately I've acquired a taste for good scotch, like Balvenie Double Wood or Glenlivet.

  8. Diabetes cured me of any urge to drink either one.

I decided early on I would rather keep my toes.

  9. One of the best corn Liquors on the market is a brand called Mellow Corn. It is bottled in Bond and that means at least 4 years old. Very tasty and minimal bite. And around $20 in Kansas.

    1. In no particular order: Maker's Mark, Four Roses and Buffalo Trace. They're all very good.

  11. I never did drink a lot, just an occasional beer or two. Even less hard liquor. But I never could see the appeal of Jack Daniels, which I thought was overpriced for something that didn't taste that good.
For the few times that I want a strong drink, I would likely choose Wild Turkey, a surprisingly smooth drinking bourbon.

  12. I've always preferred Jack to other whiskies because it doesn't give me a hangover. But recently I've switched to "Kentucky Walker" because it takes just like Jack, doesn't give me a hangover, and it's 1/2 the price of Jack!

  14. Jack Danials is something you dump in a glass of Coke . Makers Mark ,and Jameson among others are best enjoyed without sodapop .
