Cop resigns after video shows him slamming his K-9 into a patrol car

A police officer in North Carolina seen on video lifting a K-9 by his leash and slamming him into a patrol car has resigned.

Salisbury Police Officer James Hampton tendered his resignation after the department recommended him for termination following an external investigation, police said in a news release Wednesday. Hampton was allowed to resign following a due process hearing, according to department policy.

I posted on this when it happened at the beginning of last month. As I recall, the Police Chief half-assed back the cop up.

  1. Again, other than cadaver, search and rescue,in prisons, or bomb sniffing, dogs should not be used for law enforcement. Just like with tasers, their modern use is for torture. A man who would treat a dog like that belongs in prison, not "enforcing the law".

  2. More rules for thee but not for me bullshit. If a civilian attack a cop's K-9, isn't he charged with battery on a police officer? Then why didn't this pig get charged with the same thing?

    1. Because...He's moving to a city near you... or me.

      New town, new slate...

      but NOT for you...

      or me.

    2. He wasn’t charged for same reason other dog handlers weren’t charged for leaving an uber-expensive “officer” in a hot car to die.
A non-anointed civilian gets prison time for killing an “officer”, anointed civilians get a free pass. Sounds fair don’t it?

  3. Resigned......does that mean he keeps his pension? He'll go right to work on another department.

  4. I have a malinois dog as a pet, bought it from a breeder that services local law enforcement. I fid not get it professionally 'trained' (he does sit, dtay, znd shake just fine).
These are some of the most intelligent and intuitive dogs I've ever come across. Any animal handler that resorts to losing their cool and striking a dog like that (note: not the same as physically correcting), doesn't deserve the priveledge of serving with these animals.
Hope he nevrr works as a dog handler again.
Sedition is correct: he should face charges for striking an officer, same as if he punched a co-worker.

  5. Maybe this represents some improvement, too often they simply shoot the dogs they dislike.......

Like Sedition said - here's another tax eater that is above the laws that us peasantry are punished with.

  6. Fucker needs to get a makeover with his own bully club.
If he has that short a fuse, he'll kill a civilian one day.

  7. And this is yet another of thousands of reasons why "qualified immunity" should be abolished. Government agencies and their agents at all levels need to be brought to heel (see what I did there?) and made to pay for their crimes. If we convict and punish a few thousand of these wonks, we'll see a vast improvement in the quality of government. Also, if thousands of them leave the business because of risk, we'll see the same sort of improvement.

  8. This man, portrayed in the video is a coward with a high propensity for violence hiding behind what we call the color of law. If you let the emotional triggers pass you by, i think it becomes very clear he is not the problem.
He was the product of an effort to hire those like him.
They blindly follow their instructions because they know if they do not they will loose what they value the most.
This man has lost it, temporarily.
I suggest the problem lies with the system and the people supporting it that hired him.
And will do again, in another town.
I am hoping it is not near me.
I wager you are doing the same.
I do not know of a possible solution that would allow us all to feel comfortable, I wish I did.
I do know if this is not rectified, there will be much suffering. I think many people know this as well.
    What a waste

  11. Evryone and their brother wants to know everything negative a gun owner has ever done but, a dirty cop? Nope, that son of a bitch will go on to another department and do the same thing over and over and not a damn word of his discipline will be mentioned...period. That is one reason we have bad cops everywhere.

  13. Yep, that's my next door town. The local animal rescue ladies have been on this guy hard since the video got out, and it appears he's one of those dipshits who makes it onto a PD somehow. I've run into more than one "former cop" around here that's well below retirement age.

  14. Anyone but a cop would be charged with the new Federal Felony Animal Abuse law and sent to prison. But Po-Lice and Poli-licktions have their own laws.
