There’s a lot to unpack here and the differences are extremely subtle. And to give a bit of a spoiler, we’re not going to be taking the position, as is often the case, that patriotism is fine but nationalism is simply a metastatic and malignant form of patriotism.

Nationalism vs. Patriotism: What's the Difference and Why it Matters
The terms “nationalism” and “patriotism” are often used interchangeably. This is understandable, as they have somewhat overlapping meanings, both of which suffer from a certain amount of vagueness. However, there are a number of key differences between the two that are worth shedding light on. In the final analysis, we believe that the term “nationalism,” while not denoting anything totalitarian by its nature, is not an accurate term for the sentiment that exists in the United States. Nationalism, it would seem, is more suited to Europe or Asia, places with historic nations, united by common language and ethnicity that are necessarily tied with a certain area of land.

I'm a patriotic nationalist! I love my country and hate my government. A long time ago, when people immigrated to the US, they wanted to belong here - they Anglicized their name, learned our language, etc. Now we have been (and still are being) invaded by people that hate us and want to do away with our way of life and remake our country into their old motherland. You cannot unite people that have different beliefs, languages, and customs which brings me back to my statement of how I hate my government - the cause of the dis-uniting of the US.
ReplyDeleteYep, I linked that one too! Good article!
ReplyDeleteI've always been baffled as to why someone would endure the upheaval of getting up and leaving their homeland to make a better life elsewhere and then go out of their way to make their new home just like the place that they left. If you liked it that much why not just stay there then? If you hated it enough that you wanted to leave why do you want to replicate it here?
ReplyDelete"to make their new home just like the place that they left."
DeleteThat is colonization, not immigration.
"If you hated it enough that you wanted to leave"
That is a cover story to be able to slip in under the radar. Works great on snowflakes.
Should the target population wake up to the reality of colonization versus integration in time, the outcome is interesting. Usually, though, the colonization effort is sponsored by a class of parasites whose aim is to explicitly destroy or subdue the target population.
Huh.
That is an excellent point, Tom Baugh. Colonization not immigration. I'm going to be working that into the "talking points" screed bat I use to deconstruct snowflake drivel with. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThis is nothing more than long winded civ-nattery. Fully embracing the 'ideals' of conservatives and libertarians while simultaneously denigrating (justifiably) the same.
ReplyDeleteThe author is correct 'America' is not a nation as it lacks primacy of an ethnos, which is a more recent condition he fails to mention.
Also America is not a 'patriotic country' as there is no unified ethos or set of ideals, this is due primarily to the lack of ethnic homogeniety.
The author is lamenting his version of a multi-cultural utopia isn't here yet and if we would just all get on bored with his vision of 'patriotism' we could move forward as a unified polyglot of mud people. He is as deluded as any of the anarcho-commies or globalist plutocrats in the outcomes of his preferred socio-political arrangement.
'Patriotism' is in fact the most enfatuated with the state as can be demonstrated by those deemed most patriotic are those who have most done the bidding of the state (i.e. soldiers). Nationalism is a duty to YOUR people and YOUR kin who predictably end up having the most common ethos but most importantly their are no out groups that attempt to bend the ethos of the country to benefit their particular ethnos, as we are seeing currently take place all over the Western world.
You might have a point hidden somewhere in that mess Jpacka. All's I know is that my CivNat ass would put its life on the line to protect your sorry ethnos ass, despite your stupidity, merely because you're my countryman.
