Pro tip: Don't use your work email for private stuff

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A high-ranking Norfolk Police officer who donated to the defense fund of Kyle Rittenhouse has been fired from the police department.

Kyle Rittenhouse is the man charged with the murder of two Black Lives Matter protesters in Kenosha, Wisconsin, last August.

According to the Guardian newspaper on Friday, Lieutenant William Kelly, who served as the executive officer of NPD’s internal affairs division, made an anonymous $25 donation to Rittenhouse’s defense in September. However, Kelly used an official email address linked to himself, the Guardian reported.

  1. Geez... Email accounts can be had for free, and you can pick up a pre-paid Visa just about anywhere. He lost his job because he was either stupid or lazy.

    1. usually the union negotiates for the right to conduct union business on the company dime.
I'm willing to bet if he had sent money to BLM or Antifa through his official e-mail he would have gotten no more than a verbal admonishment.

  4. Find out how many police officers donated to the democrats, fire them, and lock them up in the nut house.

  5. Apparently there's some fine print shit in his contract with the city. Too bad an American citizen has to turn double back flips to express their opinion. I think he could beat this firing if so inclined.

    1. Take my word on this, read the F'n IT and Social Media policies at your place of employment. When you do, you should neve ruse your work computer / e mail / work land line and work issued cell phone for only one purpose, WORK! I do use my cell for personal and work related stuff.

  9. His Police Chief has appeared IN UNIFORM at BLM events. Somehow that's not as prejudicial as using a work email address.

  10. How smart do you have to be to recognize that most work places monitor the internal and especially the external web activity of ALL their employees. That means that you don't use your company email address for private stuff or your private email address while using company hardware and/or software. Most, if not all, employee handbooks have had this warning printed PLAINLY in them since email was invented.

Not to mention, this guy's a police officer. As such, he's supposed to be more well versed in critical thinking than average citizens.
