My nighbor did that with a piece of moulding from Lowes to get it to wrap around the corner on his staircase. Amazing to see, but just steam (for like 18 hours, but still....)
I do similar to make backs for Windsor chairs. I also make rockers in a similar way as bending from one piece gives spring on them, absent from those shaped and machined from one piece. I use a 6 inch diameter cast iron drainpipe though with a safety valve just incase
