I hate those catalytic converter thieves and the criminal scrap yards that enable them. Blows my mind that for what $100, they don't mind costing someone else 6 times that or more and all the extra grief it brings. They should be shot on the spot.
Nasty as this is, stealing catalytic converters just retail level petty shitheadedness.
The big leagues of fucking over society for vicious personal gain would be in "private investment" (asset stripping, off-shoring jobs and critical manufacturing), hedge funding and shorting. And those people don't go to jail for it. If things work out, the keep their ill-gotten profits. If things go poorly then they get federal bailouts because "too big/important to fail".
Here, they hit the Park-n-Ride lots during the day, just slide under with a battery Sawzall and hit a dozen cars at a clip. A friend was a cop (retired) and told me about how hard it was to catch them and how much damage they did.
I thought many localities passed laws the recyclers have to follow that made it harder for them to sell some items without a biz license or other and made them wait for payment or in check. Of course there are still ways to get around them or unscrupulous people will fake the docs.
We have an epidemic of cat converter theft around here - or did. The sheriff just got the ringleaders responsible for nearly all of the cat theft in the county and city, with more arrests to come.

For all the effort if they channeled their time and energy into legitimate work they would probably make a lot of money. Pretty stupid people.
ReplyDeleteThe whole time I was waiting for the car to fall on that piece of shit. Disappointed!
ReplyDeleteLooks like the yellow Brit tags on the bad guy's car. Probably Irish Knackers out shopping.
