West Point hasn't been able to produce quality officers in decades, if ever. ROTC is the only thing holding it together. That and white NCO's that didn't know they were going to be serving oligarchs instead of Americans.

fortunately, or unfortunately, Army officers, especially West Point grads, are a cross section of America. They run the gamut from wing nuts on both sides through centrists, just like the USA. Army officers at the "formerly great institution" write a 5 year plan for everything every year, 'cause that's what the generals and their aides do as required by our Congress and the Dept of Defense. Let me let you in on a little secret. Most of these kids are pretty smart. They are trained by as many or more senior NCO than officers. They understand they are being fed pablum from on high and most pass it through, learning that in a hole, in a tank or on a battery, exploding steel doesn't care what anything you are, and the best way to survive is work together. Most of those kids work hard, put up with a lot of shit, and come out fine. I'd focus your anger on the dipshits in Congress and the DoD pushing this nonsense instead of bring up our soldiers' lethality. But, hey, I only pay taxes, so I guess it doesn't matter what I think.
