Even though he removed the patina from age and use I applaud the restraint he did show because most "restorers" I have watched on Youtube seem to think grinding the snot out of a too is a restoration. Daryl
Very nice job, I like how he/she kept the "well used" look while also making it look like it's been properly cared for for 100 years. Few things outside of science give me more enjoyment than seeing old tools restored to functional status, and I hope used again. A blacksmith friend of mine has a group-owned shop filled near bursting with such tools, all 150+ years old, hanging from the walls, some restored, some waiting their turn. I love visiting there. An "amazon basic" adjustable wrench will not be serviceable in 100 years, no matter the degree of restoration done, this I can tell you. -Just A Chemist
I went to an estate sale. Old lady said she had lived in that duplex 53 years. I asked if she had any wrenches. She took me to her open face garage and sold me a pipe wrench for one dollar. Produced in 1910
That actually appears to me to be a really sound design. The screw part is centred on the nut that you are turning rather than being off to one side.
ReplyDeleteIf I'm not mistaken that's a Ford Wrench.
DeleteA early monkey wrench, yes Elmo Ford did have them in the tool kit that came with the car!!! grayman
DeletePhil should see this ... it is right up his alley
