  1. One of my uncles was in the 6th at Okinawa.
He passed many years ago, but I'll send the link to his sons.

    Thanks.

  3. Was on Okinawa three times. Going, returning from a medivac to Gaum and then when I shipped back to the world. Went up to Suicide Cliffs. I'd seen it from the air but up close and personal it was pretty amazing.

  4. Years ago i searched for footage of my Father-in-laws unit in WWII. I found so much stuff it blew my mind. He was in 2nd division Marine Corp, and was first on the beach in Tarawa in the south pacific. i actually found a short film clip of him and 2 other Marines as they were bagging and tagging the other Marines who died that day. Jack was the only guy from his unit who made it home, and I was privileged to be the only other person he ever shared his experience with. After he passed, i showed my wife and her sisters the footage and a few still photos I found, and shared some of what he told me. The rest I will take to my grave with me. I still have his foot locker, K-Bar, ammo belt, and many other items from his days in the Corp. Damn I miss that guy.

  5. It isn't he 6th, but the 5th this book deals with. I am referring to Eugene B. Sledge's wartime memoir "With the Old Breed At Peleliu and Okinawa" is one of my favorite books ever. I'd recommend it to anyone who is a "student" of military history.
