They can call it traditional if they want, but that many man hours dedicated to decorative elements alone means that almost nobody lived in a home like this. Most people (including the ones who built this place) were probably lucky to have a solidly built mud brick hut.
It wasn’t until the industrial revolution that the average worker bee could afford to live someplace reasonably comfortable. That’s a lesson that is quickly being forgotten
It probably looks like a dump from the outside. At least that is what a friend of mine from that part of the world tells me. He says that people with money will have a nice house on the inside, but purposely keep the outside looking run down in hopes that they won't be noticed and get robbed.
