Commentary: I Need An AR-15

I don’t need an AR-15 for hunting: It’s not even legal to take a deer with one in my state—the caliber is too small. I also don’t need an AR-15 for self-defense, though I’d want to have one if someone broke into my house. And I certainly don’t need one just because it’s a beautiful piece of engineering. I need an AR-15 because the government doesn’t want me to have one.

Governments hate private weapons, and have always hated them. In Europe, traditionally only gentlemen (that is, originally, only knights) were allowed to carry a sword. In Japan, the samurai’s right to carry his sword came along with the right to kill any commoner who offended him—uchisute or “strike and abandon.” In Soviet Russia, private weapons were illegal, as they still are in China. And when Hitler’s Germany swept through Holland, Belgium, and France in 1940, they put up notices giving the locals 48 hours to hand over private firearms or face death (by shooting).

Good article but they sure could've used a different picture.

  1. Not only was the 2nd amendment put into the Constitution, and worded they way it was, as a means to arm the militia, what is Americas first line fighting force (the military was a nonexistent entity during peacetime), but to keep the people armed against a tyrannical govt. Remembering that they had just fought a war of of independence against a tyrannical govt that was attempting to control everything everyone did or said or where they went,. Pretty much like the clown show in the district of clownistan is doing today.... It's come full circle boys & girls.

  2. I am not a gun enthusiast but I like the idea of buying a gun because you know the government is keeping count :)

  3. I noticed in the comments on the article it didn't take the leftists long to trot out the idea the the only ones who want an AR 15 are mass murderers.
Myself, I don't own an AR 15 or an AK 47, for several reasons, not the least of which being that I can't afford all of the guns that I want, and I have to put them in order of importance, the AR's and AK's falling too far down to get included on the list that gets funds at this point.
I remember when first arming myself with a carry gun, the large number of people who liked to say, " just save up and buy a much better gun" instead of getting a 2-300$ pistol. Well, now we see the huge number of decent quality guns at that price point, from the Ruger SR9c and it's replacement, the 9e, to the Taurus G2, G2c and the G3. All are excellent guns, not just for the price but in general. This at the time when a new Glock, once an entry level gun, is now selling for double the price at 600$ and more.
My long gun defense niche has to be filled at the moment with a .22 semi auto rifle, a 12 gauge pump shotgun, and a Mauser bolt gun in .308. If the SHTF, my son has both an AR and an AK, and he would not only let me borrow one, but has offered to let my wife, my daughter and myself move in with him and his wife, on their 20 acres in their huge log home, fully self sufficient and able to go off grid.
To be honest, I don't expect things to get to that point, rather, I expect that things will be a dystopian nightmare along the lines of a Democrat wet dream. They won't want total anarchy, they want to be able to pretend to have a government, or they won't be able to exert their control and collect taxes from people's work checks. Think half way between the current U.S. and Venezuela, with a bit of the U.K. tossed in.

  5. I own several AR-15's, a 308 Garand conversion, an M1A and an MR762. Living in a rural area, and traveling the desert frequently, the AR's are my weapon of last resort.

  6. The 2nd Amendment was not added to the Constitution to grant a right to bear arms. It was considered a natural right of free men to keep and bear arms should they so chose to do so. The intent of the 2nd Amendment was, and is, to prevent the government from infringing upon that God given natural right.

Same goes for the First Amendment, etc. The Bill of Rights.

    Great blog sir.

  7. It wasn't just rifles and pistols that went to the Home Guard. My dad's Winchester Model 12 shotgun went, too.

  8. Picture's a Beretta ARX, AKA the Tactical Tuna. Looks like the .22LR version. I had a 5.56 version, and wanted to love it, but the handguard shape was horrible and the trigger was - no joke - 18 lbs.

Terrible rifle. Had some neat features, but a complete miss.

  10. Why did they use a "Johnny 7 O.M.A. - by Remco" as the picture?
