What about the dog Alvin? What dog? I don't see a dog, you see a dog? Imprinting at it's finest.
Zoologist Konrad Lorenz showed in the 1930s that imprinting occurs when an animal forms an attachment to the first thing it sees upon hatching. The puppy now has a brood.
He wrote some books that I remember positively. The one I liked best was man meets dog.
