PG&E To Pay Nearly $150M For Botched Outages, Recent Wildfires

SAN RAMON, Calif. (AP/CBS13) — Pacific Gas & Electric is getting hit with a nearly $150 million bill for neglect that caused Northern California wildfires during the past two years and mismanagement of blackouts designed to prevent the utility’s crumbling power grid from causing more damage.

The one-two punch was delivered Wednesday. California power regulators are fining PG&E $106 million for its mishandling of power outages in 2019. The utility also reached $43.4 million in settlements with government agencies in Sonoma, Tehama and Shasta counties, which were ravaged by wildfires ignited by its equipment during 2019 and last year, the biggest wildfire season in the state on record.

  7. Much of which would have been avoided if State had allowed PG&E to perform necessary under brush maintainance. Send the bill c/o The Sierras Club who instigated ag8tated and equivocated on the issue.

  8. State of California forbade proper maintenance of right-of-ways and expansion of the power supply and grid capacity. They are now fining PG&E for the crime of not ignoring them and doing what was needed anyway.
