Should've just given him a cookie like everybody else does

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — A bear attacked a sleeping camper in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park on Friday.

The Tennessee Military Department and the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency were alerted to the injured camper shortly before 7 a.m. at a backcountry campsite 5.7 miles from the Maddron Bald Trailhead. Requiring immediate medical care, authorities called in the Tennessee National Guard for a helicopter rescue.

  1. I don't pretend to know the circumstances of the hikers injuries but it's got me thinking about the behavior of a lot of city folk in the country. They simply cant comprehend that nature is in charge. Just because you have never seen or known someone that a bear/moose/snake/alligator messed up doesn't mean it isn't real. Conversely, country cousin, just 'cause you haven't been mugged yet.....

  3. I have read that GSMNP has the highest concentration of black bear in the lower 48. I know some people who lived on the side of the hill above Gatlinburg (before the fire), and the trash cage across the road was necessary and needed frequent maintenance.
