Now that is a true bummer. I met him in a hole in the wall Houston bar in 1975. My dad had a small concert hall at the time. Dusty was very nice to me, a 15 year old kid. Sat at the bar for a bit while he and my dad just shot the shit.
If and When I slip past the pearly gates, I expect Dusty to be playing knockout bass in my heavenly choir." We ain't seen hide nor hair of 11 in decades."
Oh fuck Dusty, damn it man. Saw him up close and personnel 2 years ago, we were comparing beards, down in Mississippi. Rock on Dusty, lots of great players to jam with are waiting for you. Rest in Peace Lloyd
Damn. I've been telling people the next 5 to 10 years are going to be a Rock and Roll massacre. 72 seems a little on the young side though. They should lower all the Texas flags to half staff.
Wonder if he’ll be buried in his rhinestone stage suit. Sorry to hear of his passing. For 3 guys they sure could make some sounds and I’ve been lucky enough to have seen them play 4 times. Twice in the 80s, once in the 90s and the last time was just about 5 years ago. RIP Dusty. MadMarlin
Having just landed a position in room service with the newly built Hyatt Regency in Greenville, S.C. One evening I found myself delivering Hyatt sandwiches to the band, as they were gearing up for their performance that night. They offered me two backstage passes, as a tip, and encouraged me to bring a friend. "Man, I needed to keep my new job, and their offer was hugely tempting", as I explained to Billy. Understanding my position, and need for an income at the time, they offered an alternative. They would be having an after show party there in their suite and invited me, and a friend, to join them. Well, that's something I could do...and did ! My future wife and I had a blast and will never forget their kindness, nor their great talent. That little 'ol band will always live with-in my heart.
Rest in peace just listened and danced to you here in South Africa a few hours ago

ReplyDeleteRIP Master of Sparks.
I hear that, must be 12 to 15 times for me. I was in the audience of the Warehouse when they recorded the live part of Fandango. Great times
