In Arizona, a small plane crashed Saturday during a survey of a wildfire in rural Mohave County, killing both crew members on board. The Beech C-90 aircraft was helping perform reconnaissance over the lightning-caused Cedar Basin Fire, near the tiny community of Wikieup northwest of Phoenix, when it went down around noon.
The klamath area fire is now at 350 square miles..bigger than new york city
ReplyDeleteGod bless the Firefighters. Heros each and every one of them.
ReplyDeleteHappens every summer....sucks if it affects you or those you know but such fires had been a reality forever.
ReplyDeleteAre we supposed to blame global warming or white supremacy?
ReplyDeleteMost people don't know that in the 1930's, when things were hotter and drier, nearly TEN TIMEs the amount of acreage was lost to wildfires EACH YEAR as compared to what we have seen recently. It goes against the narrative, which is why this data was recently moved form the government website.

Notice the acreages burned pre-Northern Spotted Owl listing (in the '60s thru the '80s)
Deletewhen the U.S. Forest Service had an active timber sale program.
It's not a climate problem, it's a fuels problem. And loggers are the answer.
We operate a small organic teaching farm near the outskirts of Eugene Oregon.
ReplyDelete.
I am a commercial pilot.
During surveys of forestry tracts, we see clear-cut 'stump-farm' sections adjacent to insanely-crowded re-plantings of GMO 'steroid' franken-trees.
A tree every couple feet on ground scraped to nearly bare granite by wind and rain erosion.

A checker-board in a hundred miles in every direction.

Based on the evidence, I honestly truly believe Department Of The Interior and BLM are intentionally sabotaging our 'crown jewels'.

On a related issue:
* where does mountain soil go?
Rain erodes it into creeks and streams, then into rivers.
.
For hydro-electric production and recreation, we build dams across mountain rivers.
The rushing water slows behind the dam, and sediment drops to the bottom of the reservoir.
.
Years go by, the sediment builds.
Inevitably, the reservoir has a tiny fraction of its original capacity.
.
I suggest visiting Folsom Reservoir near Sacramento California.
Downstream near the penitentiary, the canyon is too steep to climb without technical equipment.
Upstream of the dam, silt filled the canyon nearly level with the top of the dam.
You can just about walk from one side to the other with only a tiny withered river trudging through.
.
Or Dorena Reservoir six miles east of Cottage Grove, Oregon.
Downstream looking up at that massive earthen dam, it must hold an enormous amount of water, right?
Upstream of the dam at the Rat Creek boat-ramp, silting filled that canyon.
Walk across the 'lake' without getting your feet wet.

Federal ('centralized') one-size-fits-all dictates are killing us.

I don't see a downside.
