Sounds like drugs were more dangerous than the Rona

Preliminary reports and numbers indicate in 2020, over 90,000 people died of a drug overdose in the U.S., an increase of almost 30%:

The estimated 93,331 deaths from drug overdoses last year, a record high, represent the sharpest annual increase in at least three decades, and compare with an estimated toll of 72,151 deaths in 2019, according to provisional overdose-drug data released Wednesday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“That is a stunning number even for those of us who have tracked this issue,” said Brendan Saloner, associate professor of health policy and management at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. “Our public health tools have not kept pace with the urgency of the crisis.”

Brandon Marshall, a public health researcher at Brown University, said, “COVID has greatly exacerbated the crisis” of drug overdoses in America.

  1. Looks like Nancy's "Just Say No" campaign isn't as effective as the Covid vaccine.

  2. To me a 'drug OD' does not exist unless it is an accidental OD of someone who misuses prescribed drugs.
For the rest it is merely an early Darwin exit.

  3. As I've worked through some health issues for the last year, I've noticed the Doctors and Nurses are surprised that other than an occasional Motrin I don't take any pain meds. I guess pain med addiction has become the rule rather than the exception.

  5. How many of those OD's were counted as COVID deaths so the state could get more federal monies?

    1. Most plus regular flu deaths. As I recall, it's $19k for a Covid case and $39k if hospitalized and on a vent. Which is why the health agencies didn't bother to issue a doctor's treatment outpatient treatment plan for Covid. HCQ or Ivermectin smack that shit down quickly, so don't let your friends and relatives suffer.

  7. Let's see... close businesses, tell people to stay indoors, with children (!!!), convince people that they could die from a virus that has a 99% survivability rate....pay them to not work... have I missed something?... and then sit back and see what happens. Oh my! Drug overdoses and increased domestic violence! Who KNEW?! The Dems' fingerprints are all over this.

  8. As well as DV (domestic Violence), suicide (had 2 high-schoolers this past year in a class of 16 commit suicide - both struggled with depression), and child abuse.

But what the hell do I know?? I'm just part of the front line of emergency services.....

  9. Funny how we can get an accurate accounting of deaths by overdose, but can't get the same for deaths by Covid.
