Allowing yourself to become distracted in a crowd (especially in Europe) is a clear invitation to thieves... and they do travel in predatory packs, as this vid shows. Always have your head on a swivel and if you feel like you're suddenly in the middle of a gang, you probably are.
When I gas up my car, I unlock the gas tank cover, step out of my car, lock it with the key and it stays locked until I am finished. No reason to take chances.
If you did that in the (mostly rural) area I live in, I'd call you nuts. Security ALWAYS has a cost, and that cost is often much higher than it looks.
I haven't locked my car door in decades. Nor my front door, back door, or windows, unless I was messing with someone.
And the thing is? There's tweakers around here. And other druggies. There's a park not three miles from my house that never fails to have a couple dozen homeless people camping out. But despite this not REALLY being a low crime area, I still don't lock up.
I also don't have nice cars, nor a nice (looking) house. So chances are quite low, unless one of the druggies that used to buy shit from the previous resident has a bad trip and comes knocking...
I'm just saying that trust is cheaper and more productive, even if you do get burned occasionally. (Not an excuse to go around unarmed though - death is permanent.)

ReplyDeleteSTOP TALKING on your phone in public and concentrate on your surroundings! See? Killed two birds with one stone.
ReplyDeleteYes you did, great job

Some slick moves, but I guess if they're about to ditty-bop across the border they need a phone to tell the folks back home how easy it was.
ReplyDeleteLack of situational awareness and whipping kids when they were young, hanging em when they are old.

Gas stations are a prime example of where people get ripped off because they are already distracted. Add a cell phone and they are toast.
