Tom T. Hall, the singer-songwriter who composed Harper Valley PTA and sang about life's simple joys as country music's consummate blue collar bard, has died.

  1. Don Everly performed one of his songs at the Paul Simon concert in Nashville a couple of years ago. Glad I got to see it.

    1. Believe it or not, Phil & Don Everly's mom, Margaret, is still alive at age 101.

    2. I saw this on a blog called Whipped Cream Difficulties, who posts both obits and sports firings of the day. I try to check in there often, as it gives both well known obits, and those of people you don't know, but should.
I saw his post of Nanci Griffith, and Alfred Hitchcock's daughter, Patricia. Just examples of the kind of people he acknowledges.

  3. I posted this over at Irish's place. Here's a song written by Tom T. Hall called "Hang Around San Antone" that was recorded by a guy named Bubba Littrell. I remember hearing this on the radio in San Antonio when I was young. Check out the wildly politically incorrect record label!

    1. My thoughts exactly. It points out my mortality, and the reason why people say that the music was better in the 70's. Because it WAS better in the 70s.

  5. In keeping with the entertainment deaths you should also mention Connie Hamzy who was the Queen of the Groupie lifestyle and is mentioned in the first lyrics of Grand Funk Railroads "American Band". Sweet sweet Connie just passed yesterday.

  6. I met Joe Galloway when he came with LTG Hal Moore and SGM Basil Plumley to speak to a bunch of cherry Infantry 2LTs at Ft Benning, many many years ago. Stand up guy.
