Five hundred bucks? You get what you pay for

TULSA, Oklahoma - A man is in the Tulsa County jail Friday night on a $1 million bond, accused of hiring a hitman to kill his wife for $500. Investigators said this is just the latest incident in a long line of what they call increasingly erratic and dangerous behavior.

Investigators said James Turner gave five $100 bills to a man to have Turner's wife killed, but they said that man never intended to take the job.

The affidavit said the man took Turner’s money but also recorded their conversations, then handed it all over to law enforcement.

  1. There's a great episode of Gunsmoke where a guy with a reputation as a gunman is hired to kill Chester for $500. When the steely eyed gunman goes to the home of the guy that hired him to get paid he realizes the man is pretty wealthy and raises his fee to $1000. The man reluctantly agrees to the deal and pays him.

The evening of the 'hit' the gunman walks into the Marshal's office, introduces himself to Chester and tells him he's there to kill him. He then asks Chester if he has any money and Chester says yeah, about eighteen dollars. The gunman tells him "Give it to me and I won't kill you".
After Chester gives him his money he asks the gunman who hired him and the gunman tells him. He then asks Chester to step outside while he leaves because "I don't like being shot at through windows". As he mounts his horse to leave Chester asks him "Is this the way it always is?" and the gunman replies "Yes, and I haven't had any complaints yet".

  3. The guy who took the $500 with no intent on follow though may get charged with fraud. That's how most DAs think.
