Got your winter wood yet?

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – It’s that time of the year again: The 230th edition of The Old Farmer’s Almanac is out and you can dive in to all that it offers.

Right off the bat, we have a color scheme that indicates that it’s going to be a cold winter. Digest the graphic below, and then check out what the almanac has to say about the upcoming winter.

  1. From what I've gathered, reading the Almanac for a goodly number of years now, they are not always spot on, but then neither is NOAA or the rest of the weather guessers sites. Fafmers Almanac is "generally" pretty close, and where weather is concerned, generally is close enough. And the only real way to tell what the weather is going to be is to look out the frickin window. There is also the old adage that says where winer is concerned, after an extremely hot & dry summer, which we have had here in the PNW in spades, it will be followed by a very cold Winter, and dry too. Holy crap, here we go again...... And my well has been dry for 2-1/2 yrs now.

    1. This is the fourth year of drought. Last three winters the rains came late, and last winter we got only 2/3 normal rainfall.

  2. Funny that the link is to KOIN/Portland, which easily has the very worst "News Team" among the 4 Portland stations.
They are all suck-masters of the first order, but KOIN stands out.

Which is why I quit watching any of them years ago.

  4. Already got two piles of firewood and I'm in central Texas. :) Been collecting all year while clearing land.
