A Bremerton man called a "person of interest" in the death of his girlfriend earlier this month claimed Stacy Lynn Hansen threatened to turn him in for violating the no-contact order between the two, so he stabbed her.
“I thought, ‘I’m going to prison forever anyway,’” Michael Robert Mathwig Jr., 38, told a Bremerton police detective, according to court documents filed Monday charging him with aggravated first-degree murder.
That was one of the arguments against California's 3 strikes law. If the felon knew he was going away for life, might as well try to kill off all witnesses.
I was a firefighter for Naval Base housing at Jackson Park for 3 years, a long time ago. One call in Bremerton was for a small fire at a slum neighborhood. After the fire was out, I looked up to see a small boy (maybe 4 y/o) tied with a rope like a leash to a tree. I cut the rope and protected the boy until the cops showed up. The dad had a long record of abusing the child and I hope this was his last time.

Don't worry, a restrainin' order will protect you, right? Oh, and she resumed the relationship? Darwin at work.
