John Joel Glanton

John Joel Glanton (1819 – April 23, 1850) was an early settler of Mexican Texas, a Texian fighting for independence, and later a Texas Ranger. After the Mexican–American War, he became a soldier-of-fortune and mercenary and led the notorious Glanton Gang of scalp-hunters in the American South-West.

    1. Newspaper accounts of the time often embellished the heroic daring-do their preferred candidates, using a 'if it bleeds' system to interest readers and increase sales.

      After slaughtering a peaceful camp of disarmed Indins fishing along a Texas river, the Comancheros...
      "...proceeded to fornicate the dying and dead..."

      Similar to the Orwell book '1984', McCarthy is a prophet.... Blood Meridian is a 'how-to' manual.
