Maybe if businesses allowed guns inside, they wouldn't be left in the truck

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Metro police say more than 60% of all guns reported stolen this year were taken from vehicles.

Metro police have reported 811 guns were stolen from vehicles in Nashville this year. More than 60% of all guns reported stolen in 2021 were taken from vehicles and last week, police say 23 guns were stolen from cars and trucks.

I've never seen a No Guns Allowed sign anywhere in Macon County, but I have seen a few in Gallatin and I think one in Portland. Those are the biggest cities I go to.

Last spring I had some business to attend to in my local bank. I went up to the door and saw a sign saying masks were required to go inside. Well, the business I needed to do couldn't be done at the drive thru, so I gritted my teeth, grabbed a mask off the table at the entranceway and marched on in. All the tellers waved and smiled at me as usual.
As I'm waiting for the customer service lady, I started laughing. Now here I am in a bank with a 45 strapped to my hip, wearing a fucking mask, sunglasses and a hat, and nobody's giving me a second glance. If I pulled that shit in California where I came from, motherfuckers would be diving under their desks and hitting the silent alarm while throwing bags of money at me.

  1. Businesses including banks with a mask policy should require a brief take off the mask for the camera before entering.

    1. My bank had a sign requesting that when they required masks.

  2. I carry anyway.
They won't allow themselves to be held liable when an incident occurs, so fuck their arbitrary rules.

  3. Those no gun signs don't really bother me. Carrying concealed means I'm carrying concealed, I don't advertise. Same with my truck, I don't make it a target for theft with 2a stickers and gun decals or even state my stance on different issues. Just don'f fuck with me and there won't be any problems.

    1. Even when I'm carrying concealed, it's not really concealed - there's a telltale bulge on my hip because I absolutely cannot stand to wear an IWB holster.

  4. Similar experience here. Could not believe it the first time I went in a liquor store wearing a mask and carrying a pistol and nobody gave a shit.

    1. Yep, same here. 2 years ago if you walked into a liquor store like that, they'd have likely shot you.

  5. I've walked into my bank wondering when the last time a guy in a fedora (my favorite hat) and a mask went into a bank with no intent to rob it.

  6. And even with the mask, .45, sunglasses and hat, all they'll do is give you your own money.

  8. The Coastal "country" chain in OR and WA has the candy-assed "No guns" signs on the door. That ended them for me.

    1. Coastal Farm Ranch Supply?
      Oops.
I guess I should pay better attention.
      .
I quit reading fussy little signs, most of them scribbled and posted by fuss-budgets and but-inskis, because I 'left my glasses in the truck'.

      An aside:
I will be 70 in a few weeks, I pass my twice-yearly flight physical with flying colors, my uncorrected seems stable at 15/20.
But darned if I can remember where I left my inoculations cert...

  9. Same here in NE Georgia mountains, except now, no one bothers with masks. The courthouse has a metal detector, so I just lock it up and conduct my business quickly.

  10. Gunshop in my (old) town had a sign reading "If you wear a mask in this establishment you will be escorted out by our armed staff"

  12. Unless the sign is backed up by a LAW I simply ignore it. And even if allowed by law to ban guns I still would generally ignore it. Unless I am going through a metal detector etc. to enter I ignore such postings.

  13. You'd probably see more in Hendersonville, and a metric ton in Nashville. Up there in what we used to call "dead and dying Lafayette" (as opposed to "gracious and growing Gallatin") or sometimes "Laugh At It" I wouldn't expect to see many, if any of those signs. I thought Lafayette and Macon County were nice places.

    1. The only time we go to Hendersonville is the rare occasion of Lisa having a doctor's appointment there at the hospital and I haven't been to Nashville in something like 3 years now.
      Heh.

  14. If anyone asks, I say it’s my colostomy bag. No one wants to see a colostomy bag, but if so, how dare you for asking.

  15. In Robertson county, even when they (briefly) had a mask mandate, less than 50% paid any attention. They ain't gonna lock up several thousand rednecks, farmers, etc.--not if they want their jail still standing the next day.

  16. Around here there are still a few stores with no guns signs, which are universally ignored.
There are also still some places with "We request you to wear a mask", or "masks required" signs. No one says anything if you don't wear one.
The only places where masks are enforced are hospitals and government buildings. I don't go into either unless it's unavoidable.
