Smarter In-Car Cameras Can Detect Every Dumb Thing You're Doing While Driving
Several automakers offer features where a camera inside a vehicle monitors the driver and sets off alerts when it detects them starting to fall asleep, but researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute have developed an even smarter in-car camera system that can figure out exactly what a driver is doing, potentially improving the safety of semi-autonomous driving features.

Hmmm :(
ReplyDeleteFWIW I was talking about this and the fucking "internet of things" with a friend recently and "friend" got a rude surprise ... went to renew her auto insurance and instead got a nastygram saying that she'd made a "serious violation" and they weren't going to renew her auto policy. A camera somewhere took a picture of her texting in the car and somehow got to the insurance company.
I don't know if that's legal but it's a thing. Hell how many of us have something like this looming and just don't know it yet? Social credit score already here?
Does it work if you're parked and in the back seat? In the dark? Asking for a friend.
ReplyDeleteMY 2019 Subaru Outback has the "Eyesight" system and will keep the vehicle between the lines, so to speak, and testing that by taking my hands off the steering wheel, and after about 30 seconds, it gives me a warning to put my hands back on the steering wheel. Spooky!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I tested my Outback the same way and got the same Karen notice. It's a "feature" I guess, that the steering wheel can detect the presence or absence of galvanic skin response. Anyway, I really don't need a dumb machine to tell me about my mistakes... I have a wife for that.
DeleteJust don't take away my joy of flipping off idiot drivers. So many children have learned sign language from me.
ReplyDeleteYou can prevent yourself from falling asleep while driving by watching better movies.

On longer trips, hookers are excellent stimulants for sleepy drivers. Their whereabouts show up on my moving TESLA GPS Screen. Good times.
Delete"On longer trips, hookers are excellent stimulants for sleepy drivers."
DeleteYeah, but then you have to strangle them and dump them in a rest area, and that's just too much like work.
Wanna keep alert on long drives? Find something to get angry about, and STAY angry about. Rant about it to yourself.
DeleteEasily kept me awake and alert on 1,000 mile trips, no coffee or anything else needed.
And then there's this. Apparently the AI in the cameras still needs some work.

The level of social control implied by this says that the inventor should be arrested before he can do any more harm.
ReplyDeleteWhy T F would you own shit like this. I have decided to just drop a new engine when needed. Between the black box and this shit fuck that.
