4 Diseases Humans Get from Backyard Chickens: Zoonotic Diseases

We have come to depend a lot on the food industry to supply us with tasty, quick meals in our busy lives. The downside of this is the occasional outbreak of food-related illnesses. Unfortunately, we can get a disease from backyard chickens. 

Sadly, we have become almost ‘used’ to hearing about salmonella outbreaks, listeria, E.coli, etc.

  1. Knew about some, just learned about others. More reasons why I don't want chickens and wish someone didn't bring a flock home.

    My future birds will be quail I can roll out in a quail tractor and park in the grass under a shade canopy.

  2. Salmonella is not just from store-bought birds.

    ALWAYS wash hands after feeding/watering/handling these cute little backyard darlings. Even a plastic feeder can get contaminated. If you are not careful, you could end-up sitting on the toilet all night, with stuff coming out both ends. You might even give it to your other half.

    Don't ask me how I know.

  3. Try dipping the chickens in hot boiling oil, covered with 11 herbs and spices. That should cure any diseases!
