Grocery store shelves aren't going back to normal this year

New York (CNN Business)If you hoped grocery stores this fall and winter would look like they did in the Before Times, with limitless options stretching out before you in the snack, drink, candy and frozen foods aisles, get ready for some disappointing news.

Many of the country's biggest food makers are telling grocers that they will have limited quantities of a number of their products, including items such as Rice Krispies Treats, Sour Patch Kids, some Ben & Jerry's ice cream flavors, McCormick gourmet spices and Marie Callender's pot pies because of labor, commodity and transportation constraints throttling supply chains, according to emails viewed by CNN and interviews with grocers. Some suppliers are also telling grocers to cancel their promotions of these items and more over the holidays so products won't disappear from store shelves as quickly.

  1. We’ll survive on less processed, so called food. Take away our meat, veggies, fruit and booze, and normies gone wild.

  2. This is just American companies throttling back production by uber liberal managed companies. They are pushing the liberal narrative. Rice Krispies Treats, Sour Patch Kids, Ben & Jerry's ice cream have never been on my shopping list.

  3. The commies in charge want American grocery store shelves to look just like the shelves of a Moscow store circa 1970....

  4. I eat the foods people of the fifties ate. I don't know that I've ever cooked one of those meals they have that you micro wave. Hell, still shake popcorn onna gas burner and add my own, real, melted butter and salt. I make my own pizza dough and do all fresh toppings ie, hot Italian sausage, mushroom's, extra mozzarella and my own sauce. That's all I ever put on a pizza. My wife still bakes our bread. I wonder how all this is gone to affect our diet. I'm sure what we use will soon be gone or hard to get. Oh, I cook a real meal for supper every evening.

I hear you. I do pretty much the same. No box suppers, microwave meals, or soda comes into this house. Same here with the pizza too. Every Sunday I give my wife a break and make a big homemade pizza for the family. I have cans of crushed tomatoes in the garage to make the sauce. But I haven't touched them in months. I have been using the fresh tomatoes from the garden. Oh man, it's good eating.

  5. Ben & Jerry's? Fight back against leftist corporations. When shopping take a Ben & Jerry's out and leave it in the dish soap aisle. When enough right people start acting like the left does the grocers will remove that product from their shelves. Vote your wallet.

    1. Yeah, that'll show 'em - except that the grocery store owner or the guy that has to clean up your mess might be conservative. Fuck that.
And I hate to tell you this but if the grocery store owner pulled every product that was produced or shipped by a leftist company, you'd starve to death.

  6. I went to Wally world earlier this week. The only empty holes I found were in the canned food section. There were some big empty spaces there. I didn't check the shelf tags to see what was supposed to be there.

Local grocery store where I shop appeared fully stocked and there were some pallets of goods in the aisles waiting to go on the shelves where the remaining stock had been "fronted".

  7. Here in Rapid City, Sam’s Club is & has been totally out of toilet paper: all brands. Walmart did have some in stock. Noticed while en route in Walmart to get an oil filter that the spray paint shelves were empty. Safeway was also mostly out of stock of TP. Safeway’s depleted stock is generally that which is on sale, though. ~10% of customers wear masks; all employees do. Strikes me as strange when you see a customer wearing a mask but not covering the nose when masks are not mandated. Masks are now the new cigarette butts: you see them discarded all over in parking lots. 87 octane gas here went from $3.47 to $3.55 for a few days, then back down to $3.48.

  8. The Before Time?
Isn't that from the third, awful, Mad Max movie when they were talking about before civilization fell?
    That escalated quickly.
