RAVEN ROCK, W.Va. — The West Virginia State Police dismantled “a self-manufactured bomb” found on a barge on the Ohio River on Thursday near the Pleasants/Tyler County line.
Pleasants County Sheriff Chuck Mankins confirmed the device had been dismantled by a State Police bomb squad Thursday afternoon, after state, local and federal authorities had been on the scene since about 8 a.m.
After 20 years of losing to the jihad in the Mideast it's disappointing we haven't picked up more IED tech from them. So many targets. I'd run one of those drones through a Google or FB conference room window if I had the ability.
Sitting here on my oil barge in NY, I've had to hear about this constantly. For the first time ever, the maritime security industry has had an incident in the US. There is much rejoicing and office weenies have been reinvigorated in their efforts to tell mariners how to do their job. Every commercial maritime business has to have a safety officer now, even though everyone knows that the first actual real planned attack, if it ever happens, will be carried out by a guy named Mohammad, not some hillbilly whose 'mental disorder' is pretty obviously addiction to meth. The safety nazis are going to be insufferable now. Best thing to happen to them since the government said they could marry their own people now.
Sink a barge in a shipping channel and you have significantly impacted an adversaries logistical abilities. Can't imagine who would benefit from that
ReplyDeleteSink a fuel barg under a bridge and light a fire. Two for one.
DeletePretty easy to call this one.
ReplyDeleteTrucks and train traffic bound up by clogged ports and misallocation of resources, particularly empty containers left on chassis.
Air transport on a knife's edge by removing pilots.
Barge traffic still gets to where it needs to go, mostly infrastructrally related because of bulk or length.
Watch for more bridges to be closed like in Memphis if bomb scares don't work, then bridges in the water.
Wouldn't it be something if Cumbre Vieja slid, perhaps after New Madrid dropped a bridge or twelve?

ReplyDeleteThey arrested the guy. He's on probation for threatening a cop last year.https://boatingnewshubb.com/marietta-man-charged-in-explosives-case/

ReplyDelete"Self Manufactured" Bomb? I didn't know Ammonium Nitrate was that smart.
ReplyDeleteThey made it sound like it was from the Terminator movies, a bomb building itself!
