A New Jersey man set a new record after catching a salmon in a landlocked lake. While the fish was actually caught in September, the NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife recently confirmed the record.
We call them kokanee here. Majority are the size of a decent trout. Occasionally someone lands a bigger one. But they do taste great and smoke up wonderfully.
Not much with the trout, but I've been told the shallow warm streams of southern KY through middle TN have some incredible fishing... even fly fishing if you know the right streams to get to. I'm nothing of an angler myself, but I know a few. -Just A Chemist
The biggest Coho Salmon I caught in our Michigan White River was 28 pounds, a female, after it had already spawned. That was one huge fish, and was near death. I love Michigan, for just that fact, that we really are what the advertisement says, an outdoors, water/winter wonderland.
There are some trout fisheries in TN, but they are a good way from Macon County. One is in the tailwaters of the dam near Celina (don't recall the name now), the Calf Killer River over near Sparta, and the mountain streams in east TN. I've heard there are some good small mouth Bass streams in Macon County, but don't recall the names. The only times I got into Macon was on work assignments when I was with survey and design at TDOT.
Yup, another good one. I always preferred Amador or Melones for my winter BAT fishing, then during the spring and summer, I'd hit the Sierra streams and rivers.

ReplyDeleteCelina's in the next county to the east of me and maybe 30 miles from here.
DeleteBest trout fishing near Angels Camp is the Mosquito Lakes in Alpine County right after they open highway 4 around May or June.
