Color me shocked

Add Christmas trees to the list of items facing shortages and higher prices this year.

Several factors are driving the trend, Newsday reported, including over-the-top sales last year during the first Christmas during the COVID-19 pandemic and supply chain issues this year.

  1. I haven't bought a real tree since 1974.

  2. I used to work with a Christmas tree grower. He plants about 350,000 new seedling trees every year. They take about six or seven years to make a 6-7 foot tree, once planted in the field.

Previously in bad economic times, tree sales were pretty good because people would stay home instead of traveling for Christmas. And everyone needed a tree.

I haven't been in the business for a couple of years since my brother passed away, so I don't know how sales went last year or how they are going this year.

  3. Well, look at it this way. At least you'll have fuel for day or so.
