    1. My first thought. No chips equal a dull chain.

    2. Chips do land on the ground below but this shows an electric chainsaw is for little boys and wannabes.

    3. Those aren't chips, that's mostly sawdust. He should've had a spray of chips if that chain was sharp.

    4. I have never owned or used an electric chainsaw only gas powered Homelites, Stihls, Echos, you name it I have probably used it but I did have a neighbor who used an electric one and I can tell you from watching him cut small limbs off his trees that the electric chainsaw does not have near the cutting power or the ability to create chips like a gas powered one does.

That´s why I said electric chainsaws are for little boys and wannabes.

    5. I've got a 10" electric pole saw that I use around here and it throws chips if I take a minute to sharpen the chain first.
But no, it's not nearly as powerful as my Husqvarna.

    6. Both Husquvarna and Stihl make very good electric chainsaws that compete very well against all but the larger gas saws. They are NOT battery powered, and consume 2KW. Electric motors have their highest torque at 0rpm, and perform very well in a chainsaw (harder to stall). They are far more reliable, quieter, less tempermental, and you don't have to breath 2cycle exhaust which contains oil. Gas saws can be very picky about gas quality, but can be higher powered, and more portable. Each has their place. I agree heartily with the statements made here about BATTERY powered saws, and about battery powered power tools in general.

    7. Yes, electric (corded) work fine. I got one because I got sick of dealing with ethanol gas, if I forgot to drain the tank and it was a few month before I used it again it burned it out. And I don't use a chain saw very often.

    8. Friend of mine has a battery-powered Stihl and the thing is a beast. I'd put it up against a gas-powered saw of similar size any day, especially if it's from a crap brand.

#3 Don't offer if you don't mean it.

  4. #6 reminds me of the time I timed myself drilling a 3/4" hole through an 8" x 8" timber for some bolts, first with a Brace and Bit, and then with a large,1/2" chuck drill motor.

Believe it or not, the brace and bit was faster by a good margin. I think the reason was because the bit for the brace had two cutting edges and double flute for fast chip removal while the "Ship's Auger" bit had a single cutting edge with a single flute, which required reversing the bit every so often to clear the chips clogging the hole.

Sometimes the machine is slower than human power, but I'd still use the drill motor if I had to drill multiple holes just because of the arm fatigue.

    1. If the chain on that saw had been sharp, he'd have zipped right through that board. I saw no shower of chips at all.

  5. #2 Oh, a ball bounced in my face. Lets make the biggest production we can out of this. Even needs to fall down. Probably be outside with a sign saying gyms are dangerous.

    1. I use WD40 and a lighter--works great on hornets as they're coming out of their hive, which you've just set on fire. You can't panic though...a nice steady stream and fire.

  9. #6 - Someone's been cutting dirt with that chainsaw I think, it's not cutting, it's burning.
