Mask Mandate will Remain in Metro Nashville Public Schools Despite New Statewide Legislation
On Sunday, Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) announced that masks will remain necessary in the school system until further notice despite Governor Bill Lee signing legislation into law that prohibits schools from implementing mask mandates.
The problem is the legislatures refuse to put penalties in their laws. We had the same issue here in Florida where local govts were ignoring state preemption. Adding teeth to the law's penalty resulted in much wailing and gnashing of teeth amongst the local pols, but it was effective. Plus you've got to make the penalty such that the pols can't use public funds to defend themselves if they lose.
