Wait..... people really do have boating accidents where they lost all their guns?

    1. Gotta swap the barrel, extractor, and ejector.
Best to do that initially, then if you have the need you put the factory ones back in.

  4. Nice piece that potentially will clean up to serve again. BUT, before getting hopes up to high, I'd get the law to perform a background/ballistics test proving no wants are lurking in it's history. History transfers to the possessor.

    1. It's a kimber....didn't get much. Treat it like a catch and release,; just throw it back!

    3. Barrel probably rusted so ballistic test would be worthless. If you turn it over to the law, you likely won't see it again. Have a dealer run the serial, if comes back stolen then turn it in.

    1. Yes, just keep the slide and frame and throw everything else away.
Kimber slides and frames are excellent but they use MIM internal parts, which are prone to breaking. Replace them with tool steel parts from Brownell's and you turn a jam-a-matic into a good reliable pistol.

  7. Since it's been exhumed from a lake, is it a ghost gun?

  8. Would need to change the barrel, extractor, and firing pin.

I threw a Heritage Rough Rider into a pond, but that was because it was a POS.

  10. Thumb safety is missing. Someone probably got disgusted after breaking the cheesy fork-and-blade ambi safety that they threw it in the lake.

  11. I was teaching a class on Bay clamming one day, and at a good clamming site right next to the road, one of my students handed me a Chrome Sterling .22. He wanted to know what the limit on those was. I said there was no limit, but he couldn't keep it. I turned it over to the local Sheriff's office. Of course no word on what happened with it. Saltwater is a harsh mistress. It might have been there for two months, but it was FUBAR'd.

  12. My brother was doing something kind of illegal down in the swamps in Tennessee and they had to dump guns overboard, Mike went back to get the guns and was bit by a copperhead. He got his gun back was scared to shoot it because of so much bad luck. You can't even mention that gun or he gets kind of cranky. I'm his little brother so I'm obligated to bring it up now and then, it always brings a smile to my face.
