There is a State Patrol officer who likes to sit across from my farm on our oil road and watch for speeders of which we have a ton due to the road being a quick way from one highway to another. The grass and weeds on either side of the spot across the road was high enough that he could hide until it was too late for the speeder to see him. I went over and shredded down the grass and weeds so he could be seen from a distance and still he had enough dummies that were speeding to give tickets.
I was changing a tire for an elderly couple and a trooper stopped. He said that even with the lights flashing, people would ignore him. Pretty soon he tagged one, came back and got second before I completed the work.
When I lived in Burlington, NC and went back and forth to Atlanta a lot, I noticed that empty State Patrol cars would be parked here and there along the highway. I-85 wasn't complete at the time.
Hiding in plain sight.
