AARP Rakes in Record Profits Selling Brand Royalties While Overcharging Members

The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) raked in massive profits in 2020, mostly from royalties on branded health insurance policies, not memberships, according to company financial documents.

AARP’s 2020 Form 990 shows that the organization reported $1.6 billion in revenue, with roughly $1 billion, or over 60%, from royalty revenue. Meanwhile, membership dues contributed under 20% of total revenue.

  1. When I was nearing 50 I talked to my mother about AARP as she was very well versed on insurance, senior discounts, etc.
She said AARP is a scam. All they are is an insurance broker and everything they offer can be found much cheaper somewhere else. They also funnel a lot of money into leftist organizations.

    2. To be fair, most organizations these days are scams that funnel a lot of money to leftists.

  2. For those with short memories, this joke of an organization supported Obamacare lock stock and barrel. I was only in my 40s then but learned right away, they would NEVER get any support from me.

  5. AARP was one of the main players in helping the worst electoral mistake since the peanut farmer from Plains ga (aka Obama) ram Obamacare up the country's ass, and the sun will start orbiting the earth before I become a member.

    1. Harry Reid ran it up our asses through budget reconciliation. Give credit where credits due. John "shitstain" McCain POS could have stopped it.

  6. My parents signed up for AARP because the person was so nice and sweet talking to Mom, who ran the finances in the family. Dad went along because he hated to argue with Mom.
When I turned 50, all of their minions crawled out from under rocks and tried to get me to sign up for their BS. I worked a contract in southern PA a few years after I turned 50. The AARP office was in the same building as my apartment, and the guy running the office kept insisting that I needed to sign up. He also harassed a female co-worker that rented an apartment nearby. I finally told the guy that if he didn't knock off his BS, I was going to drag him behind my car on the client's test track, which had rumble strips for testing military vehicles. I might have destroyed my car, but seeing him go to pieces might have been worth it.
AARP reps make used car salesmen look like nuns by comparison.

  7. When I turned 35 I started getting brochures and solicitations from AARP. After about 20 years and several address changes they finally stopped. (Yes, they followed to my new address even though I had zero contact with them.) I saw who they really are even then. I mean, all their offerings are through 3rd parties. That right there should tell you all you need to know.
    Fuck Joe Biden.

    1. Exactly. Every appeal they have ever made involves picking the pockets of taxpayers for the benefit of the retired population.
I packed the materials they sent me into their postage-paid return envelopes and sent it back several times, and they eventually got the hint.

  9. I don't remember just what it was that set me off, but I've wanted nothing to do with AARP since I was in my early 20's.

  10. AARP American Association of Retarded Persons and I apologize for insulting people with underdeveloped brain capacity.

I would only be repeating what everyone else has said if I commented further. However, back when they were mailing me stuff every month, I finally got them to stop by sending their application back with one word written on it.

    LAWSUIT.

Like the NRA, I wouldn't piss on AARP if it was on fire.

  13. Anyone can clearly see there is NO benefit in being an AARP member. They're essentially an insurance broker. Greedy SOB's that do nothing for seniors but try to direct them to subpar insurance plans. IMO.
