As California descends deeper into drought, officials are growing increasingly troubled by dwindling water supplies and the public’s lackluster response to calls for conservation, with residents in recent months falling short of Gov. Gavin Newsom’s request for a voluntary 15% reduction in usage.
Now, as the West tips toward crisis, state water regulators are considering adopting emergency regulations that will prohibit certain actions in an attempt to curtail water waste and help conserve supplies.

ReplyDeleteUmm, wtf, wasn't it just last week they were bitching about the record rainfall???
ReplyDeleteAnd of course, it is not about the 'water', it is about the 'fine'. They'll probably call it 'infrastructure'.
ReplyDeleteSouthern California is a joke. They flush water into the ocean to make the fishies happy. The canal from the north has no top leading to horrendous evaporative losses in the desert. A relative lived in Orange County where the properties had lawns and plantings that had the spinklers going virtually 24/7. They act like the water supply is endless. Dams and resevoirs would spoil the natural view so they are not building any in spite of population growth. So now what? Flush every other time? This should be fun.......

Meanwhile, in the small Tennessee town I live in, we just got a new addition to our bill - a rainwater runoff bill. The statement said this was a mandate from Congress.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if that applies to folks out in the country, because my rainwater drains right in a feeder creek for the Barren River.
DeleteWe have this shit in northern WI. Doesn’t matter if it rains or not

Have to wait and see. When you're in town, it's easy to twist the arm of the local water company to add items to the bill. Trying to see how they'd do it trying to run around to all the rural homes???
DeleteFines should start with the idiots that flush water down river to save little fishes that don’t need saving.

What about those who are a waste of oxygen?
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't care a bit about this except for one thing. California sets water usage standards for nearly everything sold in the rest of the country. Low flush toilets, anyone? Yet, when was the last time the Ohio or Missouri Rivers ran dry.
ReplyDeleteI knew a family in the Bay area in the 70's that were fined for NOT using enough water during a drought. Go figure!
ReplyDeleteEvery person on the California Water Resources Board should be fitted with cement boots and taken out to sea. THAT would save California.
ReplyDeleteWould that be $500 a hole or just $500 for the entire golf course? Is it recurring or a one time fee? Enquiring minds want to know...
