Let's not do that this year, please.
There's a lot of folks and organizations that are really hurting this year due to our economy and need the gifts or money a lot more than I do. Would you please think about writing a check or dropping off gifts for them instead of giving it to me?
Do you have an ARC (Association for Retarded Citizens) or similar organization running a group home in your town? Shelters for battered women? Anything like that? Fire stations often pass out gifts this time of the year for poor families. Or how about somebody in your area that fosters unwanted pets that are waiting on adoption? Even your community's local 4H or FFA program could use the help.
All of the above would really appreciate your gift.
Please understand that I'm grateful for your thoughtfulness in the past, but there are many more forgotten folks that need to be thought of this year and I know they'll appreciate anything they can get.
