NEW YORK - If it seems like your grocery costs are jumping faster than you remember them jumping in the past, you're right.
Grocery prices for American consumers have jumped 6.4% over the 12 months ending in November, according to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics. The increase is the highest 12-month spike since 2008.
Not only that but the volume (liquids) or weight (solids) are smaller than they've been as long as I can remember (which is about 1978). I don't want to plug a grocery chain, but I don't buy stuff that's on sale at Kroger if the regular price of the other size (family vs party) is less expensive per unit volume/weight, and they helpfully put the cost per ounce on their price stickers. Unfortunately, my knees don't appreciate getting me low enough to read the stickers on the bottom shelves any more...
Store up fellows. Farm inputs are rising in cost, and how! Fertilizer and herbicides are up triple. Fuel up big. Parts are getting scarce. Get canned goods. It wont cost you a dime.
Listen to me you idiots. Commit economic warfare: apply for an use food stamps ans whatever else you can. Lwt the state by your bullets and what else. The state is at war with YOU. Don't you get it by now?
6.4%? Bullshit. I GO to the store. I BUY groceries. Costs are going up a lot faster than that.
ReplyDeleteAround the NYC area its more like 10-20 percent with beef and chicken prices at 20% and canned goods closer to 10%.
ReplyDeleteGrocery inflation has been hidden for years through the mechanism of declining product quality. Very noticeable for the past 4-5 years.

And belay my last, I should have read the memo rather than the legislation:
ReplyDeleteBut being military/retiree under Democrat leadership still sucks.
